  • Changes in all 10 PowerFuse 2008 SR5 revision levels

Posted on June 26th, 2009 Yuri Haak No comments

Recently, a member posted the release notes of all the SR5 revisions in PowerFuse 2008 SR5 on the forum. If you were wondering what the major and minor changes are to the product, but you have not upgraded yet, this article could be very interesting.

Release Notes for Update Pack PowerFuse 2008 SR5 until revision 10.

Changes in revision 1 (the 8.0.5.1 kit):

    • BSOD (BAD_POOL_HEADER) caused by the appguard driver in 8.0.5.0.

    Changes in revision 2:

    Fixes for the following issues:

    • SessionGuard: When “show list of applications in the already active session” is not checked the Disconnect button will not be shown.
    • Various problems occurred when using MySql on a Linux based server.
    • Errors like ‘DELETE From tblLogs …..” appear in the common Error log when using MySql.
    • Even when the registry value “UseDisplaynameasFullName” is set to “yes” the DisplayName is not shown in Active Workspace Sessions. This happens if Active Directory is not configured as the primary directory service.
    • Small binary registry values were not correctly saved when using User Preferences.
    • Applications defined as ‘run as workspace extension’ were not properly shown in PowerTrace when they were launched in a session started with the RES Subscriber or RES Workspace Extender.
    • When the Active Directory contains duplicate users the error “This key is already associated with an element of this collection” will be shown when the Management Console is started. The error message now contains the extact user name this error is referring to.

    Changes in revision 3:

    Fixes for the following issues:

    • When creating an instant report, or selecting items for an instant report in a ‘MyWorkSpace’ edition of PowerFuse, several errors would be shown. This is fixed, only the standard advertisement will now be shown, which explains that Instant Reports are not available in the MyWorkSpace Edition.
    • On a laptop with Windows Vista, disconnecting the primary LAN caused PowerFuse to think that the Laptop is off-line, even if there was a second valid Network connection (e.g. a wireless connection). This issue has been fixed. However, if a laptop is to be considered on-line ONLY when the primary LAN is connected, a proper Advanced Connection State must be defined to control this behaviour.
    • In exceptional cases the error “Invalid procedure call or argument – GetAppIdFromINI” is given at startup of the workspace manager.
    • After starting a RES PowerFuse session with the windows shell, shortcuts added manually to the startmenu by the user before the PowerFuse session was started, were still visible in the startmenu.
    • Applications where the location (path) of the main executable differs from the location where additional  .dll files reside, could not be started in a PowerFuse session.

    Changes in revision 4:

    Fixes for the following issues:

    • After installing PowerFuse 2008 SR5, some instant file associations would always result in starting the same application, even if different file type applications were defined. This happened if, on the system level, the same file type association was defined for different file types (like .jpg and .jpe pointing to jpegfile).
    • In the instant report for security roles, the scope information was missing.
    • When performing changes in the Management Console on a workstation client, the Audit Trail would be logged with clientname as ‘%clientname%’.
    • AutoCAD window flickers and looses its selection when used in combination with RES Powerfuse.
    • The Memory Shield application’s list windows continously tried to get the focus when the application list was empty. As a result the startmenu could disappear immediately after being opened.
    • When Outlook is started in a PowerFuse session, it could be reported twice in PowerTrace.

    Changes in revision 5:

    Fixes for the following issues:

    • Due to a code error it is possible that terminated applications remain in the Icon Tray of the RES Powerfuse Shell.
    • On a XP workstation the option ‘install updates and shutdown’ could become visible in the Logoff menu. Selecting this option then resulted in an error ‘can’t find DLL Entry point’. This has been fixed, the option is only supported on Vista (or higher) windows versions, and will no longer be visible on an XP system.
    • If a building block is created directly form the Configuration -> Powerzones form, and the check box ‘Show Tree’ was checked, any nested powerzones were not saved in the building block.
    • On Windows Vista or Higher the “High Contrast” Accessibility Settings were correctly restored but not properly activated
    • On rare occasions cpu shield (CPUSHLD) causes the taskmanager to become not-responsive.

    New feature added:

    • A new variable (function) in the value of the environment variable can be used:
      • $UserShellFolder(<folder>) returns the path to the specified Windows Explorer folder for the current user.
For example, $UserShellFolder(favorites) may return C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Favorites,
or C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Favorites, depending on the operating system used. Available user shell folders:

        • AppData, desktop, favorites, nethood, personal, printhood, programsmenu, recentfiles, sendto, startmenu, startupmenu, cache, cookies, history, localappdata, mymusic, mypictures, myvideo, templates.

    Changes in revision 6:

    Fixes for the following issues:

    • Deleting an agent on a system with plenty of Agents might result in an error like: ”This item`s control has been deleted”
    • After upgrading to RES PowerFuse SR5, icons for desktop shortcuts for any unmanaged application were missing. After applying this fix, the icon will re-appear.
    • If Softgrid integration was configured without the option to store a local copy of the .OSD file in the database, Powerlaunch settings for a Softgrid application did not work, and starting a Softgrid Application would delay for some 20 seconds.

    Changes in revision 7:

    Fixes for the following issues:

    • When viewing Session info occasionally you might get the error 3265 “Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal.”
    • Even after applying update pack 3, laptops with several IP interfaces with some of them disconnected or disabled could show their primary IP address as ’127.0.0.1′.
    • When viewing the error log the error “Key is not unique in collection can be given”. If this happens the error log is not shown.

    New feature added:

    • This version of RES PowerFuse allows definition and start of Softgrid applications deployed with MicroSoft SCCM. Also, within this configuration, it is possible to ‘hide’ such an application by using the setting ‘hide application if executable is not found’. This allows to hide the application from the user while SCCM is busy with deploying it.

    Changes in revision 8:

    Fixes for the following issues:

    • When using the treeview to show Powerzones, nested powerzones could incorrectly be shown twice (both as a member of another powerzone, as well as a parent).\
    • The fast-connect option for network printers does not work on Windows VISTA.
    • When the Softgrid Integration setting ‘hide command window when launching application’ is set, a virtual command box application will disappear from the taskbar when a second virtual application is launched.

    Changes in revision 9:

    Fixes for the following issues:

    • Occasionally pwrcache.exe stops functioning and needs a service restart.
    • Some user preferences (registry settings) were not always restored correctly (e.g. TypedURLs for Internet Explorer).  This happened when a registry value contained a non-Ansi character.
    • When the cache is located outside the RES Powerfuse install directory the following error can be given:
      •        AddHideDrivePolicy at line 80; Path/File access error.
    • The Import File Association function may miss some file associations. This happened if the definition in the registry contained a short file path to the executable.

    Changes in revision 10:

    Fixes for the following issues:

    • Occasionally pwrX64.exe might crash with an unknown error.
    • When the Citrix policy “Do not use Clients local time” is enabled, pfwsmgr.exe might use a lot of CPU-time on a 64 bits server.
    • After upgrading a 2008 Server to SP2, starting a PowerFuse session with the windows shell keeps performing the ‘first time shell init’.
