At this moment it's rumored RES Software is investigating the possibility to build an extremely cool PowerFuse feature to support site affinity/location sensing!

Just imagine you would happen to work for a large enterprise:
Multiple locations networked into one big PowerFuse site achieved by utilizing table replication in SQL (oh yeah! not the stuff dreams are made of anymore; more to come in future articles!). The thing would be to know which agents were in which location and how to get them to connect to their locally (replicated) database..

At this moment in time this is not yet easily achieved. By adding custom DHCP option classes it would be possible, theoretically, by querying the DHCP client properties to setup something like PowerZone based database connectivity. Pretty cool right?

Please let me know, using the poll, if you think RES Software should place these development efforts to the top of their priority lists.

Maybe I might add here that some sensitivity would be needed to actually make workspaces work for the reason they were actually designed. Let's throw VDI into the mix and instant OS deployment, I would want the agent to be configurable and define in which workspace the OS will be landing. This is actually also kind of site sensitivity? In that case, YES YES YES, I want it/I need it NOW!

I think such a feature would be very usefull indeed.
But with every feature there are also problems along with them... what could be the possible issues all of you could think of? Like mobile employees who are using laptops and are connecting over the internet... that would be a very difficult way to identify those agents i would think?
Anyway, I think that in a lot of situations that feature would be extremely usefull!

I believe one of the things being considered is to include the site id as part of the encrypted connection information which would go into the custom dhcp option. That way you can ensure that somebody can't hijack the powerfuse configuration simply by setting up a dhcp server with the right option. You would need a database with the right site id before the agent would connect.
