True!

Orchestra will appearently be part of Wisdom as an extender. I actually got this information from a very reliable source so I dare to confirm the information!

hmmm - I don't know what to say. Perhaps it might then lower the pricing of Orchestra(hopefully!!)

Though I'm curious to know, if you'll need Wisdom in the future - because for what I'm told, third party programs have the possibility to integrate with Orchestra, and if you make an extender to Wisdom...then...

Thoughts?

Then what...?

If this is the case, It's not like RES Software has trown the entire product overboard (years of work?!) and is building something new. Seems to me like it's going to be released as an additional pack to RES Wisdom and why would this change the functionality?

However, I am wondering about the console.. would you get a orchestra console?

I think it is just a very smooth move to make. The market Orchestra operates in is not yet mature enough. For stuf like runbook & task automation people have been working with old-fashiond ESD crap for ages and still do! People who get the Wisdom proposition will love the power of Orchestra is what I think.
Putting the functionality into an existing product will boost adoption of the concept and the technology. Brilliant.

In my opinion people tend to want 5mm holes but always keep asking for 5mm drills. What's wrong with this picture :-)

The question about the consoles is: Who is the owner of the process?

If you were to setup workflows my guess would be to give all members/participants involved in a process, from trigger until output, a agent if you will. Sort of like a stripped and custom fitted access manager in which to perform their duty or role in the proces. I would think of it like an agent with some form of transactional logging logic that keeps track of a task/job status within the process flow.

A console for the actual design and delegation of the process flow and tasks could be presented based on delegation I guess. The technlogy is allready there in PowerFuse and Wisdom.

http://www.resug.com/res-orchestra-will-not-be-released-as-a-standalone-product

Today, RES Software’s Ron Grevink (VP Marketing) announced RES Orchestra will not be released as a seperate product. Instead, Orchestra will be released in the form of an Orchestration Pack for RES Wisdom 2009.

The orchestration technology, that was originally planned to be released under the brand of RES Orchestra as a stand-alone product, wil NOT be released as a product. Instead of releasing a stand alone product, RES Software will introduce the orchestration technology as an add-on / service pack for RES Wisdom. RES Software will refer to this add on as the “Orchestration Pack for RES Wisdom 2009”.

Current plan is to make the orchestration pack available free of charge for existing RES Wisdom customers. In order to use the orchestration technology in RES Wisdom, new customers will need to buy additional RES Wisdom licenses for every named user that will make use of the services delivered through RES Wisdom orchestration. RES Software’s current thinking is 1 RES Wisdom licenses per named user using orchestration functionality.

In Q4 RES Software will introduce this orchestration technology as an add-on / service pack for RES Wisdom. Current plan is to make the orchestration pack available free of charge for RES Wisdom customers with a Solution Assurance.

For customers participating in the Early Adapter Program (EAP), RES Software will release a preview this summer. The release of the Orchestration Pack is expected in Q4 of 2009.
