Hi there,

I have several projects created that will run task modules on automatic base if the new agent is installed on the pc. Now 2 projects are starting sequently: first is "New_PC_Build" and second "Drivers for Laptop". I am not able to change the execution order for them, i mean i need to install drivers firstly, then applications for new pc. How does this order is controlled in wisdom? I didnt found any special conditions configured to run exactly in the way it is running. Alphabetical order also seems not working, i've tried to rename projects. How can i change the order for execution without adding any special conditions? or if with condition how should it look like?
thanks in advance

Hi,

First of all, let's establish how you invoke the projects. Have you configured them as automatic projects to be executed whenever a member is added to a team based on team rules? Or are you performing an unattended install?

Yes, these tasks run automatically when member is added to the team based on rules: if they have a mask of computer name and specified OS installed.

Hi Dzhigis,

What you you really want here is to use a runbook where you can run several Projects in a specific order. Unfortunately it's not possible to schedule a runbook when an agent becomes member of a team. I suggest you contact RES Software Support and raise a Feature Request for this.

There is an alternative and that is the use of wmc.exe to schedule the projects but this requires the RES Wisdom Management Console to be installed on the agent and I can omagine that you don't want that. The syntax for wmc.exe can be found in the RES Wisdom 2009 Help File. In some cases this also requires the installation of the SQL native client.

Other possibility (but is a but more work) is making an module off the laptop drivers.
Put the laptop-driver module in the new_pc project and make add an condition to the module. I do not know if you can select to run it only when it is a laptop. If not, I think you should make an vb-script to identify if a computer is a laptop or not and place that in the registry. Run the VBScript in the beginning of the project and place an registry condition on the driver-module to run only when the registrysetting you make with the vbscript is set.

If I have the time, I will try the extend my make/model script I have put in the Wisdom BB part of this forum.
