Hello everyone!

I need to move my existing Powerfuse database from one MS SQL server to another.  The wrinkle (or maybe not  Smiley ) is that the new server has a different version of SQL Server.

Current config:
RES Powerfuse 7.03e
Database: MS SQL 2000 Std.
SQL Server: Windows 2003 Std

The new database server is running Windows 2003 x64 and SQL Server 2005 Ent x64.

What will be the steps to move the database from the current SQL 2000 box to the new SQL 2005 Ent box?  Do I need to run in Windows 2000 compatibility mode?
Any “gotcha’s” I need to be aware of?

Thanks for any help that you can provide!

Hi!

You could perform the migration from the Real Enterprise Manager. It will create the necessary tablestructure and it can actually migrate the data. Even without actually switching from one datastore to another. Just for testing your migration scenario.

You know, that would be just way to simple!  Grin

If I wanted to test the migration, but still keep the current setup, would I click on the "Migrate..." button, go through all the steps, then go back and click the "Change..." button and reenter the original connection information?  Or is there a way to do the migration steps, verifying if it works, and then abort the process before it becomes permanent?

Thanks!

EDIT:

I discovered you can go though all the migration steps and the last question, with a checkbox, asks about finalizing the migration.  I can press Cancel at this time.

Thanks for the pointer!

Yeah, let's ask R&D to remove it from the console and give us a commandline tool like Citrix's DSMAINT with a vi interface! Better? Grin
