Hi Guys,

We're experiencing a rather annoying problem...
Our Windows 7 (32bits, SP1) desktops are equipped with RES WM 2011 SR1. We're using a mandatory profile for our users and try to capture all settings we need for a complete enduser experience..

A few users need to change their font size for the desktop. Without the mandatory profile this works fine, but with the man-profile enabled it doesn't.

We're capturing the HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop tree as a user setting. RES is actually keeping track of this since the output on the screen shows the setting should be 150%. But Windows doesn't configure this, so the actual setting is 100%  :-(

Anybody any ideas about how to accomplish this ??

Thx.

I'm at a customer with the same problem.

My best guess on this moment is, that DPI settings occur in the logon process. This means that Windows has passed to part in wich it sets DPI when RES WM is starting. So it gets the settings from the mandatory profile and will never get the settings RES WM sets. Information in the config screen shows what is config at that moment, not what is configured at startup.

Hi,

the DPI settings are set during the logon process. Changes in these settings will be activated during the next logon. With a mandatory profile these changes will be lost, and the PowerFuse settings will be "too late" to apply the changes.

So for the combination "Mandatory Profile" and "DPI changes" you will have to implement another solution. When you know which users are using different DPI settings you could try for example:

1) Deploy the mandatory profile via the RES "Custom Resources" mechanism;
2) Create one mandatory profile with normal DPI settings and one with changed DPI settings. Use a different folder for each profile;
3) Apply a GPO which sets the "mandatory profile with default settings" location;
4) Point the GPO at the standard users for the normal DPI settings. Exclude the "changed DPI users";
5) Apply a GPO Apply a GPO which sets the "mandatory profile with custom settings" location;
6) Point the GPO at the "changed DPI" users.

I didn't test it, but I think this will work.

This makes sense - you'll need 2 mandatory profiles one; one for each DPI setting.

However, GeVermeulen mentions font sizes and not necessarily DPI settings. If it is changing the default font size then this does work with Mandatory profiles (at least on 2008 R2 as I have customers using it) just Google for RDFontSize!

Thanks, Iain
