When you disable the Run command from the Start menu using this key: "[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoRun"=dword:00000000", the user is unable to use the explorer to browse to a UNC path. Is there another option to disable the Run command without losing the unc path function?.

Config: Terminal server environment with Powerfuse (windows shell).
(In the PowerFuse shell it doesn cause any problem).

Hi Rob,

In short, you can't! There is a way to hide the "Run" option in the Start Menu without actually disabling the "Run" command (your registry key disables it).

Unfortunately, users can still use the WIN+R key combination to bring up the Run box. From experience, not many users seem to know this.. If it's of interest, I'll get Nathan to post the relevant details.

Thanks, Iain

Hi Rob,

As Iain has already pointed out if the RUN command is disabled; you can't enter a UNC path directly in the address bar this is a windows related restriction.

You could enable the run command but hide the actual button shown on the start menu using this registry key:

Path: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\]
Value Name: Start_ShowRun
Data Type: DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value: 0 (Hide); 1 (Show)
