forgot my hdd with vm's to the hotel this week.
But I just saw Microsoft has a stand alone viewer now. Maybe you could try that one. It isn't using the Internet Explorer for viewing XPS files. Maybe that will resolve the problem...

I already have installed the Microsoft XPS Essentials Pack.
Even on the console of the servers it will still open XPS in IE.

If I use the viewer in PF I can browse to a XPS file to open it. But the problem is still there.

Are you using the RES PowerFuse shell or Windows Shell within the RES PowerFuse session?
It could be the viewer needs the Explorer.exe as shell, some programs are narrowly related to the Explorer, which is not running within the RES PowerFuse Shell.
You can make an exclusion for a testuser to have the Windows Shell.
Does that make any difference?

Using the Windows shell. Powerfuse 8.0.9.1 SR9.

I've added the XPS viewer as an application and it automatically created an instant file association with .xps files for me.
I've also disabled the refreshing of the menu when resolution or display settings change.

But it still doesn't work...

When I open the viewer application nothing happens (I see the opening... dialogue but nothing opens, no xpsviewer.exe process in taskmanager)

When I double-click an xps file it opens internet explorer (IE8), which flickers a couple of times and shows some black bars and then tells me that there was an error in the application I was trying to use.

No errors in appguard or other powerfuse logs.

Wohoo!! Found the solution!! http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955692/en-us
Didn't even need restart after aplying the hotfix. Cheesy

*Edit: You need to have the following Advanced Config option turned on in Powerfuse: 'Do not refresh Start Menu when display properties change'

that hotfix didn't work for us.

what did work was upgrading to RES WM 2011 ;-)

xps files are now opened in internet explorer without problems or refreshing.
