From the stuf-you-need-to-know dept. In order to help answer common questions about Licenses and especially acitivations, RES Support have crafted a FAQ which should help you go about your license management with RES Products.

How to activate old 7.03 licenses when your site is already converted PowerFuse 20xx

This requires RES to throw a few switches and press a few buttons in the internal systems. Please Send the File to RES Support and explain the problem. We will then revert the licenses to version 7.x

What does it mean when a license states expired?

A production license can mostly be used for 30 days without activating. After 30 days the system will state: Expired. When the licenses are expired, they can only be used after activation.

Can we extend our evaluation for RES PowerFuse 8?

If you need to reactivate an evaluation license a second time, first please consult with your local RES Software Channel manager.

How can we change our Site Name?

Version 7.03:

You will first need to remove all licenses from the RES console, including Site License. Note you cannot remove the site license before all other laptop and user license shave been removed. Then add the Site license again, where you specify the new Site name. Then add the other licenses accordingly. You will need to re-activate the Site License and all licenses.

Do not forget to use the button “Add License” when adding the Site License to the activation.

Version 8.0:

End user needs to do a new activation request.

I am trying to add the licenses I have bought to the RES PowerFuse Management Console but the format does not seem right?

It has occured that a customer ordered version 8 and by error received version 7 licenses from his reseller or vice versa. It’s very important to know that you know which version of licences are need and you double check the format of the licenses. Here’s how:

A version 7.x license is delivered as a PDF file with license numbers that look like this: RES-NNN-NNN-NNN-NNN-NNN-NNN

A version 20xx license is an XML file which has licens numbers formatted as RES-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX…

If you receive the wrong license file, there is a disclaimer document; “Yes, I promise I won’t use these licenses etc.” to sign, which you can request from RES Support. To speed up the process, you can fax this form (with a signature) to our office in The Netherlands (+3173622811) or send it by email to support with CC to. After that, post the original in the mail and send it to:

RES Software

Het Zuiderkruis 33,
5215 MV 's-Hertogenbosch
The Netherlands

Att: BackOffice

When the form has reached Backoffice, they will blacklist the original licenses and send new licenses to you.

I have received licenses but I cannot create an account on the RES Support Portal?

Registering on the Support Portal with the Site License is only possible if the licenses are activated. Otherwise we will never know of these licenses and you as our customer. We deliver licenses but often don’t know where they will end up. That’s why a customer can register on the RES Support Portal ONLY after activating his licenses.

If you have already activated your licenses, but you are still unable to create a portal account, it may have something to do with your SA status. Call support and ask them to check. If you positively know that you Subscription has run out, you may also choose to contact your local reseller to handle it for you.

This error message may be shown when trying to import the activation xml: “Failed to import RES PowerFuse/Wisdom activation!”

The activation xml file may be corrupted. This may occur when the .xml file was forwarded internally by e-mail, download via webmail. Alternatively in both cases, it might have been mangled unintentionally by a virus scanner. Let Support know about the problem and we’ll zip the license file and try agian.

With the release of Wisdom 2009, RES made some changes to the way the products are licensed. This post is an attempt to clarify matters a bit, as it recently has become a red hot topic. The document describes both the agent and the connector licencing scheme, and there is a nifty calculator in the article to help you figure out your license needs and associated costs.

Click on the preview picture of the calculator below to read the complete article:
